Imagine:Design::Tell:Story

STORIES:
Almost everything in life tells a story. You look at each person's desk in the studio and it describes a little about who they are and what they like. From this past week I have seen several stories through artifacts, fairy tales, Pat’s piece of furniture, “Midsummer’s Night Dream”, religions, and dress. I have seen stories mostly through dress this week from my psychology of dress class. The way someone "dresses" themselves tells a story about who they are.
ARTIFACTS:
This week we have seen several different artifacts in Design history and theory, as well as in everyone's opus from Suzanne's class. These artifacts have a special meaning and purpose behind them either to someone or a group of people. A cross is not only an artifact to me as an individual but as well as to the Christian family.

MULTIVIEWS:
We see multiviews of objects, stories, people, and other things to get a different picture and understand of things. I have seen several multiviews in the movie we watched, "Midsummer's Night Dream" through people. I have also seen it in drafting for Pat's piece of furniture by doing multiview drawings. By recognizing there are different views, we get a better picture of what we need to be seeing and analyizing.

CYCLE:
In our history and theory class, we have been learning about the cycle of reusing ideas from the past. Not only buildings, but furniture and color patterns all repeat theirselves at some point in life. This happens for different reasons, just like history in the United States. It is important to realize and learn this for future purposes and success.

TRANSLATION:
In studio this week, we have had to do a lot of visuals from text. Our fairytales produce different moods, colors, textures, pictures, etc. Through this we have to translate what our views are onto a board and create an artifact. This helps with our creativity and product making. We are able to translate thoughts, ideas, and images from our minds to create something visual and physical.

THROUGH THE ENTIRE WEEK, WE HAVE SEEN STORIES, ARTIFACTS, MULTIVIEWS, CYCLES, AND TRANSLATIONS. ALL FIVE OF THESE TIE TOGETHER BY TELLING STORIES. NOT ONLY IN MY INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE CLASSES HAVE I SEEN THESE WORDS BEING USED, BUT ALSO IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES AND PSYCHOLOGY OF DRESS. THE WORLD AROUND GIVES US DIFFERENT IDEAS AND THOUGHTS TO CREATE AND IMAGINE DIFFERENT DESIGNS. THESE DESIGNS THAT ARE CREATED TELL STORIES.

Drawings/Model
Concrete
At the beginning of this project, we started by gathering information on the parking lot. We then broke into smaller groups; mine being the building edge. We observed our area and made a "throw-up" drawing. We then gathered ideas on what we thought about creating with concrete. This structure is one of the four that my group came up with. This particular one was the one I helped create with Kathy. We made our mold and used bubble wrap for a texture. We then caste our concrete and came out with a 12 inch circle with a 6 inch square in the middle. We were very happy with the outcome, and ours did not crack so we left it as it was.

Dialogue
It took me a couple tries before I knew for sure what I was going to do for the final project. My first idea was very simple and straight. I decided that I wanted to do something a little more complex and came up a better design. The folds within it gave it a different and unique look as well as upped the complexity. The new look created several different pathways, gave off different effects, and came together with unity and dialogue.
